Christmas is almost here! Can you feel it? If you listen closely, you can almost hear the sleigh bells ringing, which means it’s time to get into the spirit of things!

Of course, Christmas day will be a special day for everyone in the family. But there are tons of activities you can do with the little ones before the big day.

They’re so much fun, they might even become a recurring annual theme in your household!

Write Santa a Letter

Grab some glitter or metallic gel pens if you have some and a sheet of quality paper and have your kid write Santa a letter. When the little ones aren’t looking, write a response to your child’s letter and sign it “From Santa.”

Once you’re done, stick both letters in an envelope addressed to “Santa Claus, North Pole.” Then drop it off at the nearest mailbox.

The Postal Service will send the little ones a response from none other than Santa himself! Make sure to mail your letter by December 7 so they can be received by “Santa’s helpers.” You can get more details on how your child can get their response letter here

Play the Newspaper Ball Game

The game is simple. All you need to do is wrap a couple of gifts in newspaper and form a ball. Then have everyone takes turns unwrapping each layer to see what’s inside. Make sure to leave a couple of empty layers so the kids don’t know when they’ll get a surprise. The best part of this game is that whatever you unwrap is yours.

To make things even more entertaining, play music and have the kids sit in a circle and pass the ball among them. Then stop the music abruptly. Whoever is holding the package gets to unwrap a layer of newspaper to see if they got a prize. Then repeat.

Host a Cookie Swap

Have friends or family bring over a batch of their favorite homemade cookies (all you non-bakers can bring store-bought) and take turns swapping and sampling each other’s cookies.

Since we’re in the middle of a pandemic, you can still host a cookie swap, but with a few twists. Consider limiting the cookie swap party to your own bubble, like only the family members that live under your roof, or immediate family you’re regularly in touch with. You can also mail the cookies to your friends and relatives who live far away.

Make an Advent Calendar

Advent calendars are fun to make and are a great way to countdown to Christmas. The origin of this tradition goes all the way back to the 19th century and now you and the kids can have fun creating your very own for the holiday season.

Create a Snowman Hot Chocolate Bomb

Make a hot chocolate bomb, which is a hollow, chocolate shell filled with marshmallows and hot cocoa mix. Think of it as the hot cocoa equivalent of a bath bomb. Once you have one, place it in a cup, pour hot milk over it and watch the marshmallows magically float to the top.
