Easy Keto Recipes to Make on the Cheap Any Time of Day

Following a keto diet doesn’t have to be time-consuming nor expensive… Especially with these easy keto recipes.

 

This list was inspired through all of the emails I get requesting family-friendly or specifically kid-friendly meals. When I began my journey, keto and low carb were not as popular as it is today. It was a lot of research and trying recipes.

 

I had originally begun my journey because I was unhappy with my body. Prior to pregnancies, I was always thin. I was the girl that could eat whatever I wanted and stayed between 98 and 105 pounds. 

 

As I said, that all changed when I became pregnant. It wasn’t really the pregnancies, per se. They changed the way I metabolized food but I had always had an unhealthy diet prior to that. I just didn’t gain. 

 

The added weight paralyzed me. It kept me from enjoying time with my family in activities outside the home because I hated my body.

 

I had tried every diet over the years but none worked for me. It was too much thinking. Plus I usually hated the foods.

 

At one point, I heard about low carb and skeptically I decided to try it. 

 

It came naturally to me.

 

It was regular foods. I would need to cook and avoid certain things like gluten and sugar but I already knew I needed to do that. 

 

Immediately, I cut the soda I’d been drinking in excess (at least a case a week), omitted sugar (ate cookies, candy, and cakes all the time) and bread (we had bread with every meal!).

 

Over time, I found that my health was better. Prior, I had always been sick to the point of completely losing my voice. I had acid reflux. The chronic stomach aches were also gone.

 

Don’t get me wrong. Cutting all of the bad stuff was not easy at the beginning. It’s truly an addiction. You actually crave them when you start cutting them. That saying that it takes 21 days to form a habit, well you need to give it all of that. No backsliding. Trust me, eliminating things like soda and sugar alone will already make you feel better. So imagine how great you’ll feel making the complete change!

 

It’s really weird what the mind does to us. I literally felt so much better than I felt as if I could do anything. However, I didn’t realize I had lost weight. I still saw myself as overweight. It took a coworker to say ‘I think it’s time for you to buy new clothes’ that I saw myself. Really saw me. My clothes were hanging off me.

 

But I didn’t see it. 

What’s Bad About Keto

 

Starting is hard. You have to cut certain carbs cold turkey. The soda, cookies, candy, desserts, and soda. And bread. Once you do it awhile, it comes easy to stick with it.

 

The really isn’t much bad I experience with keto. You learn what to do if you experience symptoms of ketosis. Like electrolytes.

 

However, the bad I did experience was judgemental people. Remember this one thing: No matter what plan you are on, there are saboteurs. People who say it’s not healthy or try to give you things and say ‘just one won’t hurt’. 

 

As for unhealthy, that’s BS. Did you know that was initially created over 100 years ago to control epilepsy, seizures, and diabetes? To this day, many doctors are still utilizing keto as a treatment for people with these.

 

What You Should Not Be Doing

 

You should be focusing on real foods. Not meal replacement shakes, etc. Meat, vegetables,  some fruits, and healthy fats should be the normal daily diet. 

 

I suggest talking with your doctor first to see if keto is for you. An informed doctor. My doctor is a cardiologist and was highly educated as to keto and was all for me starting. However, some doctors do not believe in keto. You know, the same kind of doctor that doesn’t want you to take a natural supplement but will put you on 20 man-made medicines for something a simple food plan may reverse. This was the case with my issues.

 

Conclusion

 

While this may not be for everyone, and some may simply do it as a way to lose weight and revert back to the old way of eating, this is now a lifestyle plan for me. It is a way of life. 

 

As I said, you may not find support with your family or circle of friends. If that is the case, hold strong. I suggest local groups for support. Look at meet-up. If not, or your schedule doesn’t permit a group, there are a ton of great groups on facebook. In fact, I belong to several. Find those that work with your way of thinking.
