5 Fall Mantel Decorating Ideas
Incorporate nature into your decor
Fall foliage, greenery, pinecones, and other nature aspects look great on a mantel during the fall months! These can be an excellent base for the rest of your design, or you can use them as fillers to round out your mantel. If you are going to be incorporating natural elements into your decor, make sure that you set your fall produce, candles, and other larger items down first, and then work your nature into the crevices to make it look more beautiful.

Add some fall produce
Pumpkins and gourds are a perfect way to add a natural fall touch to your mantel. While you can mix and match your pieces, I recommend that you don’t go too overboard with the pumpkins. Either choose to have pumpkins as your centerpiece with subtle decor around it, or use your fall produce to fill in large gaps on your mantle without making them the focal point.
Put in some candles for soft lighting
Candles not only offer a cozy fall feel but will provide some soft lighting for your mantel. You can choose either real or flameless candles, but be careful that it doesn’t become a fire hazard! The last thing you want is for those twigs and leaves to turn into a fire on your mantel. Don’t be afraid to get a little creative here and vary the sizes of your candles. You can use candle holders or large candles to add height and dimension to your mantel.
Or use string lights for lighting
If you would rather have more subtle lighting throughout your mantel, consider using string lights instead! String lights can be easily tucked into your foliage or around pumpkins to create a fun, festive fall mantel without drawing too much attention to themselves.
Add a banner for one last touch
The final piece for your fall mantel is a cute banner to tie everything together. While banners are optional, and might not work well for your design, a simple burlap banner that says fall or happy fall could make your room look more inviting and festive! If you don’t want it to say anything, you could also stick for something more neutral such as leaves or pumpkins.
BONUS: My bonus tip is to use your Fall decor as a backdrop for Halloween and simply add in or change out a few of the items while leaving the majority of fall as your base.
Your mantel is the focal point of the room, so it’s important to take the time to decorate it well! Hopefully, these tips will help you create a beautiful mantel in your home, but give you some ideas for decorating the rest of your home too!
